She married Ernst August Hanover, Prince of Hanover, son of Ernst August IV Hanover, Prince of Hanover and Ortrud Bertha Adelheid Hedwig Prinzessin von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, on 28 August 1981 at Pattenson, Niedersachsen, Germany, in a civil marriage. Chantal and Ernst August were remarried in a religious ceremony on 30 August 1981. She and Ernst August Hanover, Prince of Hanover were divorced on 23 October 1997.
